“We are honored to receive these five gold stars and are proud of the work our county Farm Bureau members have achieved,” said Robert Bessey, Sanpete County Farm Bureau president. “The programs these stars represent are important because it helps us in promoting and maintaining agriculture in the community.”
Only three other county Farm Bureaus, including those of Box Elder, Uintah and Washington counties, received five of the six gold stars. County Farm Bureaus are judged on six categories of achievement, which include: membership development, policy development, policy implementation, women’s programs, young farmer and rancher programs, and safety and rural health programs. The categories are designed to encourage leadership development, safety and active civic participation among members of the agricultural community, the press release stated.
Tax credits available for Sanpete businesses
MANTI — Sanpete businesses filing their 2008 Utah State income tax returns may be eligible for enterprise zone tax credits, according to Kevin Christensen, Sanpete County director of development.
A county or community can qualify for state designation as an enterprise zone if it has a population of less than 10,000 and is experiencing economic hardship due to factors such as unemployment, poverty or a reduction in value of commercial property.
Sanpete County as a whole and the towns of Ephraim, Fairview, Moroni and Mt. Pleasant have been designated as enterprise zones.
Qualifying businesses within the zones can receive tax credits for new positions filled for at least six months during the past year. They can also receive a tax credit for their contributions to a non-profit corporation engaged primarily in community and economic development, funds spent on rehabilitating a building which has been vacant for a minimum of two years, as well as funds spent on investments in plant, equipment, or other depreciable property of at least $250,000 in total value.
